Should I replace my roof before going solar?
If the roof has fewer than about five to seven years of life left, yes. A quality array will run twenty-five years, and removing and resetting it mid-life typically costs thousands. Doing both at once is the cheapest path by a wide margin.
Will solar panels damage my roof?
Properly flashed penetrations should not leak, and the covered portion of the roof is actually shielded from UV and thermal cycling. Leaks come from the wrong hardware for the roof type or from sloppy flashing, which is why the installer matters more than the panel brand.
